Budget Month: Week 1

As you may already know, we are onto our budget month recommendations for November because my credit card needs a break! So instead of bringing you two recs a week, I’m just going to let you know everything I did the past weekend that works for a budget. This week we have happy hour, a wine tasting, cheap eats and more. And don’t forget to submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram!

I’ve talked about the apero hour at Le Crocodile on the show before but I finally had the chance to go and experience it in person and I was impressed! This swanky happy hour in the Wythe Hotel offers excellent martinis for just $9 and there’s wine and snacks too. Highly recommend!

Wine tasting at Fermented Grapes

Previous guest of the podcast, Kilolo Strobert, owns this great wine shop in Prospect Heights and every Friday from 6-8pm they do a FREE wine tasting. It was great to stop by and try some delicious wines and hang with friends. Plus, again, free!

Stopped in at this Columbia go-to on our walk of Manhattan from top to bottom and I was so glad we did! I had this spot saved on my map for a while and was just waiting for an excuse to be in the neighborhood. I got a spicy and wonderful roti roll with cauliflower, potatoes, and chickpeas and it cost a whopping $6.50. It also weighed about seven pounds. Go check out Roti Roll if you’re in the neighborhood!

Once we made it down to the Village and had walked off some carbs, it was time to try another spot I had saved, Shingane. These are kinda like a waffle batter that you choose your filling and we got the sweet, chocolate nut. They also press them with this darling NYC logo, which I of course found very cute. It came on a (worthless) stick, proceed to eat with your hands and enjoy. At $7 it was the most expensive thrill of the day and entirely worth it.

As if the walk wasn't enough, we rounded out our evening with a Broadway show. I had bought tickets to I Need That, starring Danny Devito, months ago and didn’t even remember the wild deal I got. Apparently, I signed up for Roundabout Theatre’s Hiptix promotion, which offers $30 tickets to ages 18-40. Thirty. Dollars. For tickets to a Broadway show? If that’s not a deal in NYC, I’m not sure what is. I highly suggest you sign up, for free, and be on the lookout for email blasts.

Don’t forget you can have a custom New York City itinerary just like this, made specifically for you with our Curated Days!
