WiFi in Parks & Bud Smith’s Substack
Sometimes I wrestle with my weekly recommendations. I know people always want bars and trendy food spots, but sometimes I just have to be completely honest about what I’m loving in New York City currently and go with my gut… Don’t forget, you can submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram.
Did you know that more than 50 New York City parks have free WiFi? Once I found this out, I was off on my bike, laptop in backpack, to try it out in Central Park. The map on the park’s website just showed a little icon for the location but I figured I’d arrive at the wide-open Sheep’s Meadow to blazing-fast internet and get some work done in the spring weather. On arrival, I realized the free WiFi was actually coming from the Le Pain Quotidien and I’d be lucky to get a weak signal while sitting on a little patch of grass as close as possible to the cafe. But you know what? That’s ok! I finished the work that I could and decided to finish my other non-internet work under another tree. So, sure, maybe go try out some wifi in an NYC park. And maybe it’ll work, or maybe it won’t, and maybe you’ll still have a gorgeous day out in the city anyway.
Nice Try from Bud Smith
This week, Bud Smith’s Substack took me for a ride and blew me away. If you’re not following, I implore you to subscribe immediately. Bud Smith is the author of the fantastic, Teenager, and shockingly, said yes to being a guest on my podcast back in season one when I had no business having him on. His stories are always so enthralling. You’re immediately hooked and they just keep unraveling and turning. This week’s, The Upanishads, hits all those notes and more while Bud narrates walking aimlessly around New York City. A must subscribe for any lover of great writing and NYC.
