Museum Mile Festival & Met Opera’s Summer Recital Series

This week I’m featuring two events you can attend on the same night, Tuesday, June 18th. And I’ll be taking my own advice and going to both! Don’t forget, you can submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram.

Next Tuesday night from 6-9pm, the Museum Mile Festival shuts down Fifth Avenue from 105th-82nd Street and you should go. The streets are car-free (!!!) and eight participating museums open their doors for free. I plan to start up at 103rd St. at the Museum of the City of New York, then stroll down to 89th for the Guggenheim (usually $30!), and end at The Met on 82nd St. for some rooftop views.

After you’ve perused some art and strolled the Upper East Side head down Fifth Ave. to check out the Met Opera’s Summer Recital Series in Central Park. Before you enter the park at 72nd St. pop into Marché Madison and Maison du Vin (Madison & 74th) to pick up some snacks and wine for the park. The opera performance is at the Rumsey Playfield and the line can often be ridiculously long, so instead of waiting try what I like to do instead and set up a blanket right outside the playfield. You can still hear all the beautiful singing, enjoy your wine on the grass, stare up at the stars above the city, and remember how much you love it here. All without waiting in line.

Don’t forget you can have a custom New York City itinerary just like this, made specifically for you with our Curated Days!
