R Slice Pizza & Watermelon Margaritas

Exciting news! We’ll be having a “Rachel’s Recs” takeover for three weeks while I’m away on vacation. I know what you’re thinking, “Rachel, you leave New York?!” Yes, even crazed NYC obsessives like myself have to leave now and again. So, I’m having three fabulous New Yorkers sub in and tell you what they’ve been loving in the city. I’m excited for you to hear from them and truly interested to see what they recommend. I hope you enjoy it! But for this week, I’ve got an excellent pizza slice and a must-order to go drink. Don’t forget, you can submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram.

The new slice shop from the Roberta’s team is good! I went once a few weeks ago and thought as much but put in the extra “work” to return a second time and confirm it is very good. The crust is charred and the tomato sauce is tart but they really got me with the giant glug of rich olive oil poured on top. In my opinion, the best way to enjoy this pizza is to grab a few slices, head out to the picnic tables on the street, buy two glasses of wine from the bar inside, and you’ve got a nice little al fresco dinner for less than 40 bucks.

The frozen watermelon margaritas from Five Leaves are delicious and refreshing on their own but the very important part of this recommendation is “to go”. There’s nothing better than pulling up to the window at Five Leaves and grabbing a few of these margaritas to take to nearby McCarren Park to share with friends! And I know this because I probably get at least one text a week from a friend asking if I want to go grab some watermelon margaritas from Five Leaves and chill in the park. Perfect NYC summer bliss.
