Budget Month: Week 3

I have a feeling that after Thanksgiving you might be looking for some recs that aren’t specifically food and drink related so I thought I’d bring you two things I really enjoy doing in the city that have nothing to do with bars and restaurants. Don’t worry we’ll get back to happy hours next week ;) First up is a favorite activity of mine that I think gets overlooked and the second is one of the best places to work in the city that is absolutely free! And don’t forget to submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram!

Ok, I really love getting a shoe shine. Am I alone in this? While I hate the cold weather, once it turns I start to get excited that I can pull out my boots and get a much anticipated shoe shine at The Leather Spa in Grand Central Station. It’s the little things sometimes, ha. Something about the entire experience is very relaxing, almost massage-like? Add in the element of it being in the basement of Grand Central Terminal and it really feels like a special New York experience. Plus, prices start at $12, cheaper than a pedicure and you come out looking like you bought a brand-new pair of shoes!

Head just a few avenues west and you’re at the NYPL on Fifth Ave. This is one of the most gorgeous rooms in the city and best of all, free to everyone. I love that they have the most magnificent rooms on the third floor and that they're dedicated entirely for quiet work. It truly is so special that we get this as New Yorkers. Even if you don’t have work to do, just stroll in some time and take a look around, guaranteed to shake you out of a bad mood.

Don’t forget you can have a custom New York City itinerary just like this, made specifically for you with our Curated Days!
