Conservatory Garden & Barney Greengrass
After glancing at our Rachel’s Rec custom Google Map recently (did you know we had one? It’s very helpful!) I noticed I don’t have a ton of uptown recommendations. So this week I’m recommending two places on the Upper West and Upper East you can hit in one day, ideally on a CitiBike! You know me, I can’t help but promote you getting out on a bike in NYC. Don’t forget, you can submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram.
Rachel, Central Park for spring? Groundbreaking. But hear me out! The Conservatory Garden, up at 105th and Fifth Ave., is sometimes overlooked. If you haven’t been yet, now is your time to head to this breathtaking oasis. You enter through the massive Vanderbilt Gate to the parks only ornate gardens. There are French, English, and Italian gardens, and they’re all blissfully peaceful. Also not to be missed is the Untermeyer Fountain featuring the Three Dancing Maidens. All and all, a lovely way to spend an afternoon in the city.
After relaxing in the gardens, jump on a CitiBike for a quick 14-minute ride through the park to Barney Greengrass. Open since 1908, this Upper West Side deli is an institution or a reason. They have an expansive menu but I’m prone to a bagel, orange juice, cucumber salad, iced tea, pickle, and whatever else I want. Go spend the day uptown and enjoy this spring in the greatest city in the world.
Don’t forget you can have a custom New York City itinerary just like this, made specifically for you with our Curated Days!
