Whitney Biennial & Astraeus Collective “Hygge”
Switching it up from the usual bars and restaurants this week and bringing you two things you can do in the city. The first is an art exhibit and the second is a live music performance in Brooklyn. Don’t forget, you can submit your NYC requests on Friday in our stories on Instagram.
The Whitney Biennial is here and even though Jerry Saltz had some thoughts, I enjoyed it! The way the magnitude of pieces and installations hover over you and enclose you in the work was grand. One of the most engrossing was Once Again . . . (Statues Never Die) by Isaac Julien, spanning across five screens in one room, it speaks to Black artists’ legacies in modern history and I found myself unable to leave the room. You have until August 11th to check out this Biennial.
If you’re looking to see some classical music performed in an interesting new way, why not check out the Astraeus Collective’s performance at Here BK this Saturday? They’ll be performing Scandinavian folk music at a coffee shop in East Williamsburg and I for one, am grateful that artists are still out here doing cool shit like this. See you there!
Don’t forget you can have a custom New York City itinerary just like this, made specifically for you with our Curated Days!
